Most cafes in Bangkok are beautiful but not all are satisfying. That’s what we learnt from another café, Audrey Cafe’ des Fleurs. Audrey Café proved to us that not all cafes are the same. We tried Audrey Café before Greyhound Café and thank goodness for the latter or my opinion on BKK cafes would have been sullied.

My family wandered around EmQuatier Mall one afternoon and like all foodies, we checked out the AMAZING spiral food floors of the mall (level 6-9). You must see to believe.

We had lunch at Audrey Cafe’ des Fleurs because it was sooo pretty plus a rather popular one too. But in all, there is only one dish I would recommend: the Thai Milk Tea Crepe Cake. The crepe cake was crazily soft and light with our forks piercing through it effortlessly. The thick thai milk tea sauce was irresistible too! So damn delicious.

On the other hand, the savouries left much to be desired… The menu was good; decent mix of Western and Asian items but the flavours felt “off”.

My sister ordered this Thai Boat Noodles that looked really good. Thick stock with plentiful of ingredients but there was this off-putting flavor that we could not pin down. We failed to finish this.

Look at this stunner: Crab Soufflé served with Lobster Brandy Sauce. This was one of Café Audrey’s classic dishes but this was not good. The lobster sauce was thick and overly rich plus the soufflé texture was just… off. Both did not go well together. Two bites and your whole body will shrivel up from the richness and boredom set in. As this was so bad, no one from my table wanted to take a second bite and I could not managed this on my own. For the first time in a long while, I did not finish half the dish before asking them to clear it. Not good.

This appetizer, Fried Prawns with Mayo and Seaweed had all the makings of a great dish but the prawns were not coated with a crispy batter and garnished with a lot of… cai po/ preserved salted turnip. So random but not the best tasting…

My mum’s dish was more than decent. Fried Rice Noodles with Pork Gravy. There were tons of eggs and good wok hei. We managed to finish this.

Audrey Café des Fleur proved to us that not all Bangkok Cafes are alike. Best not to come to Audrey Café hungry. Aesthetically pleasing, substance did not match up. Lesson learnt: best to research thoroughly beforehand.
